Simple Blog Help

Purpose
Who can use?
This blog exist to provide a location for my (Rusty Key) relatives to create a web log (Blog) for public viewing. The main driving force behind this project was to provide a location for the sharing of family news and information with out requring the individuals to sign up for some social networking system (MySpace, Tagged, etc.). Because it is hosted on my website there will be no annoying Ads or other bandwidth eating processes that can make it difficult for those with out a high speed internet connection. This blog is open to the public for reading and comments, but only available to relatives for the creation of blogs. All family members are encouraged to use this Blog regardless of age.
Requesting
Access
Since this blog is available only to relatives for the creation of blogs, there has to exist a process to set up accounts for approved users. This process is not (currently) automated and therefore requires the following steps. First, send me (Rusty Key) and email stating that you would like access. In this email, include the your name, a preferred 'user Id', an email address you want to use for the Blog messages and your relationship to me (our family is quite large!). Once I receive and process your request, I will set up your account and notify you via the email you've requested to use. Your confirmation email will provide you with instructions for signing on the first time, changing your password and basic blogging.
Censorship
Due to the nature of this blog, I will monitor the content to insure that this site retains its 'family rating'. It will be at my sole discretion on what content remains and who has access to post blogs and comments. There are only two basic rules: 1)no profanity, 2)no personal attack blogs or comments. I will delete any blogs breaking these rules and will provide two warnings to the poster. Three strikes, your out.
Navigation
by Calendar
This blog system will display the most recent blogs starting with the newest. Since blogs are dated, the calendar to the right of the page is used to navigate. Clicking on a date will reselect and display the blogs starting from that date. Clicking on the "<<" or ">>" on either side of the Month name will move forward to backwards by month.

by Title
You have the ability to jump to a specific blog based on the title and author of that blog. In the navigation menu titled "RECENT POSTS" you will find clickable links to the last 10 post. Clicking on one of these links will only display that blog entry. Reselecting through the calendar or Archives will bring back the full list.

by Archive
You have the ability to jump to a specific month of blogs based on the date of that blog. In the navigation menu titled "ARCHIVES" you will find clickable links to the last 10 months where post were made. Clicking on one of these links will display the blog entries for that month in decending date order (most recent first). Reselecting through the calendar will bring back the full list of the current month.
Account Admin
& Blog Entry
Under the "BLOG UTILITIES" you will find several links depending upon your current environment. To log in to your account, edit your account or to add/edit a blog entry, click on the 'Log In/Admin' link. To log out of your account, click on the 'Log Out' link.
Log In
Log Out
If you have a valid / active account you can log in using the Log In screen which is about as simple as I could make it. Put your assigned UserID in the first text box, your password in the second text box and click 'Log In'. Clicking on the 'Click for Blog Page' link will return you to the public Blog page.
Logging out is done by simply clicking on and 'Log Out' link found through out the site. While not required for the system to function properly, leaving your system logged in can provide the ability for others to post blogs under your identity.
Comment display
and creation
Currently comments are available for all public viewers. (This option may be restricted if abused.) Clicking on the link entited 'comments(#)' under a specific blog will display all comments for that entry and allow for a new comment to be posted. Reselecting blogs display through the navigation links will remove the comments display.
Linking to
an entry
I'm not sure what this does yet. Obviously a future enhancement!
Blog Creation
Blogs are created in the Admin page which is only accessible through the Log In process. Clicking on the "Blogs" button will display a menu of 'Create Entry' and 'Find entry by Date'. Using either of these links, you will be presented with the functions required for creating/editing/deleting blogs. If you have made an addition, simply click on the 'diskette' icon located after the title entry section to save your blog. You have the ability to not publish a blog by unselecting the 'Publish to Web' check box. This feature allows you to create a 'draft' and then publish later. Use of the editor is best learned by doing!
Blog Editing
or Deletion
You have the ability to edit or delete a specific blog based on the date and title of that blog. In the Adming screen under the blog menu click the 'find entry' link. The calendar navigation process will be displayed and clicking on a date will display all blogs for that date. Each blog entry has three icons for 'Editing', 'Deleting' and 'Comment review'. Simply click on the appropriate icon and follow the process.
Changing your
settings
To change your password or email address, click on the "Settings" button on the Admin screen and then select 'users'. You current userID will be displayed along with icons for 'Editing' and 'Deleting'. Simply select the desired icon and follow the prompts. Currently this system does not have the security locked down. Please do not modify the Global Settings nor any user settings that is not your own! Please be aware that modifying your UserName (UserId) will 'disconnect' your old blogs from your new Id.
